Cleanroom Test Conditions

There are three different installation and operational phases which affect some of the test methods and which are useful in specifying a testing and acceptance schedule for Cleanrooms, As-Built, At-Rest & Operating Facility’s.

Most Cleanroom construction contracts normally specify performance testing for the as-built phase. Testing of Cleanrooms in the at-rest or operating phases are typically beyond the control of Cleanroom designers and builders. Such testing is normally applicable to in-house Cleanroom operating specifications and to contractual situations in which Cleanroom operating conditions are specified. When specified contractually, the Buyer should designate which tests are to be performed and schedule the testing to correspond to the Cleanrooms at-rest or operating phase

The testing required is described in ISO 14644

Facility Testing Criteria

As-Built Facility

An as-built facility is a Cleanroom, which is complete, and operating, with all services connected and functioning, but has no production equipment or operating personnel within the facility.

At-Rest Facility

An at rest facility is a Cleanroom which has the production equipment installed and operating, to the extent possible, but has no personnel with-in the facility.

Operating Facility

An operating facility is a Cleanroom in normal operation, including production equipment and personnel.

As Built Facility Tests

Integrity Test
We shall test all seams and joints to ensure that no infiltration of particles is possible, this shall be a scan test at all seams and doorways.

HEPA Filter Scan Test
We shall on site after installation, scan test each filter to ensure that no leak larger than 0.03% shall be allowed through any part of the filter. This will not be included at this time, by agreement between the University of Toronto, and ESC.

The testing required is described in ISO 14644

Temperature and Humidity
Dry and wet bulb temperature readings shall use a +/- .1 Degree Fahrenheit accurate instrument. Measurements shall be taken for a period of 30 seconds in the same grid pattern as the Airborne Particle Count.
