Vernon Solomon – President & CEO

Vern brings over forty-one years’ experience in the HVAC industry (a Family Tradition Since 1928) and is the founder/owner and President of Environmental Systems Corporation since it was formed in 1983. Vern started his career as a licensed Inter-Provincial refrigeration air conditioning mechanic having graduated with the highest mark in Ontario in 1981. His certifications include: Refrigeration Service Engineer Society – Certificate Member Specialist-Air Conditioning; Cleanroom Design & Construction Course @ Arizona State University; and Cleanroom Certification & Testing National Environmental Balancing Bureau.

Vern’s primary responsibilities are conceptual design, project management and quality control of projects. Vern’s has senior management experience since 1980 in more than 100 projects.

Vern has overseen every aspect of Environmental and Cleanroom system design, including space planning, mechanical and structural design, scheduling and engineering. As the Cleanroom industry grows, it is Vern’s desire to maintain ESC’s record of joining together state of the art Cleanroom and Environmental technologies with the highest levels of service and design concepts allowing our clients to make informed decisions.

Forrest Curry, CET – Vice President – Critical Environments – Integration

Forrest joined ESC in 1996. His responsibilities include integration of DDC control systems including ACCUTROL Lab Systems and LIGHTHOUSE Continuous Monitoring. Forrest has 42 years’ experience in HVAC Industry – 18 years with Cleanroom projects. As a graduate of Fanshawe College, Forrest graduated with an Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Engineering Technology Diploma. His experience is broad with intimate experience in various DDC control systems such as Honeywell, Johnson METASYS, Walker, CAREL and Yokogawa. Integration of DDC Controls with Accutrol & Lighthouse for real time data accessibility.

John White – Vice President – Critical Environments – Manufacturing

John has been with ESC since 1992. John has over 39 years experience within the HVAC industry with 18 of those years specific to the Cleanroom – Critical Environment discipline. John’s is a licensed Refrigeration AC Mechanic whose expertise lies in Quality Control and Project Management specifically within the Critical Environment domain. Responsibilities include HVAC system design, environmental systems start up, and commissioning for commercial / industrial facilities, including Close Tolerance Temperature Humidity Systems.

Aaron Styles, P.Eng. – Vice President – Critical Environments – Cleanrooms

Aaron joined ESC in 2017. His responsibilities include assisting our Collaborative Teams with the experience gained in a variety of industries spanning Injectable Pharmaceuticals, Personal Care & Cosmetics to Electrical Equipment. Aaron has 17 years’ experience in Critical Manufacturing & Cleanroom applications. As a graduate of Queens University, Aaron graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science – Chemical Engineering. His experience is broad with intimate experience in Senior Operations Management, Engineering, Maintenance, High Performance Teams and Lean/Six Sigma.

Mitchell Quathamer – Conceptual Design – Cleanroom

Mitchell is a recent Mechanical Engineering Graduate from The University of Western Ontario, where he was awarded The ASHRAE Award for exceptional knowledge in the HVAC courses provided. Mitchell assist’s in the initial Conceptual Design of our Cleanroom Projects, efficiently displaying room details using 2D and 3D modeling programs.

Goutham Seeman – Conceptual Design – Cleanroom

Goutham is a recent Mechanical Engineering Graduate from The University of Western Ontario, where he has been an active member of ASHRAE since 2015. Has keen interest in learning new technology for HVAC solutions and design. Goutham assist’s in the initial Conceptual Design of our Cleanroom Projects, efficiently displaying room details using 2D and 3D modeling programs.

Jeff deGroot – Project Manager, Cleanroom

Jeff is a Gold Seal Certified, Construction Management Diploma & Bachelor’s Degree, with 18 years demonstrated experience on large and medium scale projects, Experience in Design-Build, Construction Management and Project Management Projects. Advanced Construction Health & Safety Representative.

Teil Pitblado – Project Administrator, Cleanroom

Teil is a graduate of the Fanshawe College- Construction Engineering Technology Management. As the CR Project Administrator, Teil is responsible for project submittals and procurement and expediting of materials for our Cleanroom Projects. At project completion, he provides all of the project closeout documentation.

William Fuss – Construction Manager, Cleanroom

William joined ESC in June 2012 as a Custom Fabrication foreman. Williams’ role is to assist in the development, design and build of custom fabrication in regards to our Critical Environment group. William also provides assistance in the final build out of our client’s Cleanroom installations. Williams background and experience is 8 years within the construction industry. Previous to joining ESC, William worked within the Finish and Delivery team acting as “last eyes” for Quality Control previous to handover and delivery of sites to customers.

Jennifer Birch-Schofield, CET – Cleanroom Design

Jennifer joined ESC in 2007 as a designer with 20 + years of tool & die design in the automotive industry. Jennifer’s responsibilities include cleanroom design using Autodesk Revit (BIM – Building information modeling software), supporting sales by preparing cleanroom proposal concept drawings for customer review and supporting production and installation by preparing complete drawings package, including details and schedules for use by qualified installers. Additionally, Jennifer oversees preparing IQ / OQ documents for cleanrooms, air handling equipment, and controls using Frame Maker software, coordinating custom forms to suit the customers qualification needs and is involved in execution of protocols. 35+ projects have gone from design through to completed construction.

Thomas Ring – Critical Environments & Mechanical Design

Electrical Engineering (Automated Systems) at Georgian College Barrie graduated with Honour’s. Previously employed with Northstar Engineering & Technologies Ltd. Proficient in the use of Revit for MEP Building Services design. Has been with ESC since Sept 2014. Thomas’s latest growth has been adding Control Systems Programming and Commissioning.

Megan Laidlaw – Critical Environments Project Administrator

Megan is a graduate of the Georgian College Architectural Technician Program, as well as a Home Inspector. As the CE Project Administrator, Megan is responsible for initial proposals, submittals and procurement and expediting of materials for our Custom Manufacturing. At project completion, she provides all of the project closeout documentation.

Margaret Solomon – Corporate Secretary and Quality Manager

Presently an Officer of the corporation, Margaret joined ESC in 2005. Margaret’s educational background is in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing. Additionally, Margaret is presently attending George Brown College within the Interior Design program. While Margaret has worked in all areas of the company over 9 years, her present role involves managing our ISO program, Health and Safety representative along with aiding in the business development and project administration requirements.

Brandon Phillips – ACMPR SME / IT & Marketing

Brandon’s responsibilities have been varied. Dispatch, Fabricator (on-site and in shop), CAD Designer, IT Manager, are all positions he has held. Working in the Critical Environments division, his expertise in layout/design of air handling units – using industry leading CAD software from Autodesk – has been utilized on many projects. Brandon also takes care of the mixed (Mac/PC) IT requirements. Duties include comprehensive management of corporate office and remote on-site IT technologies, servers, workstations, VPN and VOIP phones. Brandon brings over 20 years of combined experience with CAD and IT Management and Website Design. Brandon is also ESC’s resident ACMPR subject matter expert.

Rod Groves – Manufacturing Team Lead

Rod joined ESC in 2007 as our Team Leader in the custom fabrication unit of our company. Rod’s role is in the development; design and build of custom fabrication in regards to our Critical Environment group. Rod is an Interprovincial certified Licensed Sheet Metal worker under the Ontario certification program. Rod’s previous experience provides him with 9 years in the custom fabrication of Stainless in the Food Processing industry, experience in “medical grade” fabrication and a background in the fabrication of components within the Aerospace industry.

Don Lighthall, CPA, CGA – CFO

Don joined ESC in the Fall of 2007 as the Controller. He is a CPA, CGA receiving his CGA designation in 2000 after completing the Business Administration – Accounting program at Georgian College. Initially assisting with all aspects of the accounting function he progressed to the Chief Financial Officer role with the company. Don is responsible for overseeing the entire accounting department at ESC and works with the external accountants in preparation of year ends.

Eva Solomon – Corporate Treasurer

Presently an Officer of the corporation, Eva joined ESC in 1985 when the origins of the company focused on HVAC. Eva’s original role was as Office Manager overseeing the Service Division. As the company developed the Cleanroom and Critical Environments divisions, Eva’s role evolved into working in collaboration with our CFO to manage and oversee all the accounting functions of the day to day financial and accounting operations of the corporation.

Angela Watkins BSc – Bookkeeper

Angela’s responsibilities are all accounting and job cost functions for the corporation. Angela reports to the CFO. Angela’s brings 15+ years of Finance and Administration experience to her position. Angela has a BSc (Hons) from the University of Wales – Swansea.
